Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, about elite squads of soldiers hunting a terrorist, set records five days after release when it topped $559 million to make it the most popular entertainment release of all time.
Not even Avatar, which opened in theatres in December, could top Modern Warfare 2's mark set in November. But Avatar did only take 17 days to crack $1 billion at the international box office. Modern Warfare 2, with a retail price in Australia of $120, had a five-week headstart over Avatar (pictured left) to hit the billion dollar mark.
Game publisher Activision Blizzard CEO Robert Kotick said it still exceeded expectations.
"Only a handful of entertainment properties have ever reached the $US1 billion mark," he said.
Infinity Ward released a new patch 1.08 that fixes the infinite care packages, Elevator glitch as well as the 10th prestige glitch hack. Also Robert tweeted that they are working on issue with Sony.
""However, we are aware of several users reporting freezes once connected to games. We are currently working with SONY to identify the source of this issue.""
The US patch is currently in verification process.
European patch fixes the following problems. • Care Package, Emergency Airdrop, and Sentry Gun marker grenades sprint speed normal. • No more infinite care package • Sentry Guns: Improved placement detection, preventing cases of Sentry Guns inside geometry. • Model 1887: Bling using Akimbo and FMJ combination now has same range and damage as non-Bling Model 1887s. • Improved player collision removing cases of getting into geometry and 'elevators'. • Fixes to prevent various XP hacks.

Rob posted a picture of his office on his blog fourzerotwo. Check out Rob Bowling's Office at Infinity Ward picture above.
"Spent a few hours this week getting my office together. You’ll be surprised how much clutter you’ll accumulate over 2-years of development when the LAST thing on your mind is cleaning.
The life-size Ghost statue is also finally completed and looking awesome.
{bonus points if you can name every video game franchise represented}"
Players are continuing to experience problems related to hacked "level down" servers, which give extreme amounts of negative experience per kill or round that will generally reset players to single digit rankings. The problem had been known to exist on Xbox 360 as a result of jtag'd Xbox's, but now has also been reported on PC servers as well.
The problem has been brought to the attention to developers on the Infinity Ward Forums, but as of now, no fixes or patches have been released to correct the problem. Keep checking back for more updates on the issue.
Here's a story amusing not so much for the games that were sold or their price, but the fact the seller managed to, essentially, resell used Steam games. Like 139 of them, for $1,000. (With free shipping, too!)
Seller dave311freak estimated his collection's value at $2,700 and said he wanted at least $500 for the collection - which includes Grand Theft Auto IV, Modern Warfare 1 and 2, and Borderlands. He ended up getting double that.
"This account has absolutely no bans on any of the games, is in good standing with VAC, and any one of the games can be downloaded at any time on any computer with Steam on it," the seller wrote. "I will change all of the information in that account to the winner's email address and issue a password to the winner that he or she can change once they log in. I will also provide user account information for games that require additional credentials (Dragon Age for the DLC, Company of Heroes Account info, etc...)."
Why is dave311freak ditching his PC collection? "As you can probably tell, I spend way too much time buying and playing video games and I am going to try to spend more time with my family and doing other hobbies," he writes. I bet he comes crawling back in two weeks, but good luck anyway.
The video game industry got a shot of good news Wednesday: Activision Blizzard Inc. said sales of its blockbuster “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” have exceeded $1 billion worldwide since it launched Nov. 10.
Although the Santa Monica-based publisher didn’t specify how many units it had sold, that’s probably close to 15 million based on the 8 million units the game sold in its first week, generating $550 million in receipts.
That means the game probably already is, or soon will be, ahead of the 14.4 million units of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” sold in 2007, previously the best-selling title in the hugely popular 6-year-old “Call of Duty” military shooter series.
“Modern Warfare 2” now ranks among the best-selling video games of all time, including sequels to the “Grand Theft Auto” and “Super Mario” series.
Although sales of video games, which cost $60 or more each, are difficult to compare with theatrical box office, Activision is no doubt thrilled that its $1-billion-plus game may now be compared to “Avatar,” which recently became only the fifth movie ever to gross more than $1 billion worldwide.
The game’s continued success is good news for Activision and the industry but is far from enough to make up for what has been a difficult year for video game disc sales.
Came across this article and thought it was pretty interesting. Check it out!
"The first Modern Warfare 2 Map Pack, which will hit the Xbox 360 first in Spring (PlayStation 3 later), seems to have already had one new mode revealed (Global Thermonuclear War). But someone has put a video on YouTube with some hints as to what could be the new maps, as well as favourite maps from the original Modern warfare. They claim the video is legit, and that they will have all of the new addition's by next week.
If you are unable to see the video, the maps featured are titled as:

Modern Warfare 2 is continuing to set milestone records, and with its 9th consecutive week on top of the sales chart, has now become the 3rd best selling game of all time in the UK. Only Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? can claim to have sold more units in the UK, despite Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 having only been on sale for nine weeks.

Gamers will only just be recovering from the onslaught of Modern Warfare 2, now according to a fresh report more details on the next Call of Duty game have trickled out.
According to Abstract360 murmurings are suggesting that the next Treyarch developed game in the franchise (following World at War) will be based around the Vietnam War.
As well as providing the exhilarating war-like shooter experience gamers will be expecting it’s also suggested that the next Call of Duty game will be very story heavy - good news for those who felt Modern Warfare 2’s story left a lot to be desired.
The latest intel’ appears to originate from an unnamed “source” so make of it what you will.
amie Varner, World Extreme Cagefighting lightweight champion, says he used video games to strengthen his hand after a debilitating injury.
After pummelling Donald Cerrone in January of 2009, the fighter found himself with a broken metacarpal bone. The doctor’s orders? Play videogames.
“He told me to stay playing video games because that would strengthen everything up,” Varner told The Sports Network.
Unfortunately, Varner had made the rookie mistake of loaning his Xbox to a friend, fighter Ryan Bader. Bader finally forked over the machine in time for the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
“I’ve been on that non-stop pretty much,” Varner said.
And now he’s finally back in fighting shape: After nearly a year in recovery, Varner will defend his championship against Ben Henderson this Sunday in Sacramento.
Tweeted by Infinity Ward Creative Strategist Robert Bowling, the Facebook fan page for famed Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer was recently updated with news of his most recent music projects, which includes Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. While no dates are mentioned, the page states "A soundtrack album is in the works!"
With record-breaking sales of the game itself, it's a fair assumption that plenty of people enjoyed the music in said game, which Reviews Editor Tae Kim described as "thrusting." Any Modern Warfare fans thinking of buying the game's soundtrack? I might, given Tae's hearty endorsement.
