During a post-earnings release conference call, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick mentioned that "an all-new Call of Duty" title will be released in 2009. No word was announced on what theater the game will take place in, which includes rumors that it could be based on a futuristic battlefield. Kotick also confirmed the title will "leapfrog" studios, putting Activision in charge of development. Thanks for Kotaku for the news.

Well now, he has confirmed that several of the modes will be featured in the game via an upcoming update, although no release date was announced. While we aren't sure which ones for sure will make it to the release, you can check out a few of the possibilities below:

Here are all the changes and fixes in the update: You can download the new 1.7 patch from us below. Remember that you MUST install the 1.6 patch first for the patch to work properly. A link to the 1.6 patch can be found below as well. - Download New Incremental Patch Version 1.7- Download Patch Version 1.6
While many Call of Duty gamers, including myself, anticipated Call of Duty 6 (yes 6!) returning to the modern combat theater, it appears the title may be moving in a totally new direction. Rumors from Computer & Video Games are now circling that the next title will have a science fiction basis, somewhat similar to Battlefield 2142. Remember this is a rumor, as C&VG reminds you to take it with "a pinch of salt". We will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
With the release of World At War not too far off in the future, Activision has redesigned and relaunched their official site to serve all Call of Duty titles. Call of Duty.com has officially relaunched today with an entirely new theme, and a new name, now known as Call of Duty HQ. This website, which replaces the now defunct CharlieOscarDelta which served as the Official Call of Duty 4 website, will serve as the official portal for all of the Call of Duty games. Check out the newly launched Official Call Of Duty HQ today!

Nivida is sponsoring the PC Variety Map Pack. This means that the PC will get it for free.

Wonder what the news is for the PC players? DL content may be or maybe the 1.6 patch news. Guess we will have to wait and see.
If for some reason you still haven't picked up Call of Duty 4 yet, Valve has put forth quite an incentive. You can now purchase Call of Duty 4 through Steam for 20% off the regular price. The only catch is that you must purchase it before Tuesday, otherwise you will have to pay full price. For more head on over to the Steam Website.
Well apparently the Call of Duty 4 game engine will now reach well beyond the modern combat battlefield. Rumors have surfaced that the new James Bond Quantum of Solace title, which is being developed for the movie release, will employ the Call of Duty 4 game engine. Even though I haven't picked up a Bond title since Golden Eye, this will certainly get me to take a second look at it when its released. Thanks to V3D for this bit.
Fourzerotwo has the news that the Playstation 3 Variety Map Pack for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has been released. However, it is region locked for you international users out there, so make sure you read the following: Heads up for international users purchasing the Variety Map Pack for the PS3. The Variety Map Pack is Region Locked, which means that you MUST purchase the version of the map pack which is compatible with the version of the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare game disc that you have. For example: If you have the GERMAN version of the game, you MUST purchase the GERMAN version of the map pack. If you have the UK version of the game, you MUST purchase the UK version of the map pack. Just make sure that the Disc version and the Map Pack version matches up. If you have an UK version of the game, DO NOT purchase a German version of the map pack. It won’t work. The same goes for any other mismatched version. There you have it, so make sure that you get to downloading it right away!
Well Activision today put to rest a flurry or rumors suggesting that Infinity Ward was planning on retaking the Call of Duty franchise. The rumors suggested that Infinity Ward would be the sole developer of all Call of Duty titles after Call of Duty 5, which is currently being developed by TreyArch. However, in a post from EuroGamer, Activision assured the community this would not be occurring.
Well it looks like the Map Pack was a success. Surpassing one million downloads in the first nine days since its release

Turns out all those rumors you have been hearing about the Variety Pack release being delayed are false, confirms Activision. They have assured us that despite a rumor stating the release date had been moved a week back, the original release of April 4th will be met.
It is believed the rumors might have been part of a larger April Fools joke, however I don't think anyone, especially Activision, really laughed.
Videogamer recently got the chance to sit down the developers at Activision to get the scoop on the future of Call of Duty 4. One particular feature gamers are keeping an eye on is the possibility of new content for the single player mode, downloadable through Xbox Live. Despite an overwhelming hatred, cheaters and stat padders have been a part of gaming for as long as anyone can remember. However, for those who choose to cheat on Xbox Live, the penalties for these activities have just gotten a lot more serious. Microsoft has announced several new ways it hopes to curb the growing number of cheaters on the network, while publicly embarrassing them at the same time.
While it doesn't go as far as Valve's anti-cheating policy, where hackers loose their account, it is most certainly a step in the right direction.
The team over at Charlie Oscar Delta have finally officially recognized their upcoming Variety Pack, planned for Xbox 360, and the new patch updates for Playstation 3. Along with the announcement, the team has also released screenshots of the new maps as well as a brief description about game play and scenarios. Even more news for Playstation 3 users, who will not only be receiving the Variety Pack, but also have received a new patch released this week. The patch aims to change a number of the game's aspects including updated spectator cams and improved sniper accuracy. For more information on all this and more, be sure to head on over to the Charlie Oscar Delta. You will need to have a registered account there to access the details.

For those of you into Machinima, or if you just have some extra time, Machinima.com has released a teaser trailer for the upcoming series titled Retaliation. Check out the Movie Trailer Here.
Call of Duty 4 publisher Activision has confirmed the Variety Map Pack will be available for a limited time on Xbox Live. The official map pack will be available for download April 3rd for 800 MS Points (10 USD), and will remain available for 21 days after that. The date may seem familiar to some, as it is also the release date for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Game of the Year Edition, which will include the map pack by way of a token redeemable for a free download. While no official word announcement as to when the map pack will be available for PC's and PS3's, the press release by Activision seems to suggest that it will be released shortly after the Xbox 360 version. Along with the announcement came several new screenshots as well, two of which can be found below.

Infinity Ward (Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare) 3. Blizzard Entertainment (World Of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade) 4. Electronic Arts Canada (FIFA Soccer 08, NBA Street: Homecourt) 5. Valve (Portal, Team Fortress 2) Here's what the magazine had to say regarding Infinity Ward: The second place went to Activision-owned developer Infinity Ward, thanks to both the resounding critical and commercial success of its 2007 release Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and high scores and healthy praise for the developer’s working conditions, professionalism, and attention to quality. Congratulations to Infinity Ward on this achievement. Thanks to FourZeroTwo for the news.
With Call Of Duty 4 becoming such a huge hit, the question now is what's next for Activision and the Call Of Duty franchise? Well we might have a closer look into this subject as Kotaku had the chance to sit down with Activision head Bobby Kotick. Although not officially announced, Kotick did hint that they may be thinking about converting it into a MMO, similar to that of World Of Warcraft. While the thought of a Call Of Duty MMO might interest some, it would still be quite a ways off. The comments above are far from an official announcement, and Kotick himself has said before for a game to compete with World of Warcraft billions of dollars would need to be invested in research and development. None the less, it gives fans everywhere a new aspect of the franchise to talk about.
Infinity Wards community manager has posted a new blog, check out a snippet from it below: Read the full entry here

Tom's Games has put up an interview with Infinity Ward's community manager, Robert Bowling (FourZeroTwo). Here's an excerpt: TG: Are you going to continue to add content for both the consoles and the PC? Robert Bowling: Our main focus is to keep supporting the game as long as the players are supporting us. So as long as they're people playing we're going to keep updating it. Right now we're working on a DLC map pack for the PS3 and the 360 version which are going to include three maps right out of the gate. We're working on that now and that should be coming out around springtime although we don't' have an exact ETA. We're just working on getting them perfect right now. You can read the full Q&A right here.

Well personally, I think that Bungie doesn't have a chance to take Call of Duty's spot as numero uno on the ladder. Call of Duty 4 has a solid fan-base and has a long line of games which I think will keep it anchored in first place and there's no way I think Bungie could overtake them. Halo 3 hasn't been top of the pops on Major Nelson's Xbox Live activity charts for a little while now, but Bungie plans to fight back. ( Read Full Article)

That’s insane. With a little over a million players logging in everyday for multiplayer, I can’t say I’m too surprised. It’s awesome to think that we’re all part of building something so massive, and when I say we, I mean me, you, all of us. Everyone who logs on to play with their friends, reads the blog, contributes on the forums, took part in the beta. You guys shaped this game and what it is today. We have one massive, powerful, community and all of you should be proud because there is honestly no other game community I’d rather be a part of. So when I say this, know that I mean it… THANK YOU!!!
We have some new multiplayer playlists in the works to breath even more life into multiplayer, in addition to that I’m working on a few other things behind the scenes that I can’t talk about just yet (in case they don’t come to fruition)."
