New Call Of Duty 4 Content Could Be On The Way

Thursday 28 February 2008 | Post a comment

XBOX 360 players could be experiencing new Call of Duty 4 content as early as this weekend. The word comes from Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling, who has updated his IAMfourzerotwo blog saying that the patch is "very, very close". While nothing has been officially confirmed by Infinity Ward, it is none the less very promising for the long awaited update. Check out Bowling's blog post below.
"With the release of our Feature patch and DLC coming closer and closer every day, and plenty of new playlist ideas being thrown around for Call of Duty 4 multiplayer I know we can keep the fight going for a long long time. I love these weekly number checks because it provides a great opportunity to give you guys a weekly update on how things are going here at the studio with those updates, so with that said…

I got word that the Xbox 360 Feature patch could be ‘very very close’, I can’t tell you exactly when because they haven’t passed on that information but apparently certification went fantastic and I was given the Green light to take care of some things that I have to do before it goes live to you guys, which means good things. I’m not going to get any hopes up, but I hope to be seeing some new Kill Cams by the weekend if we’re lucky. Don’t hold me to that though, but I have a good feeling about it."

Bungie is attempting to take first from COD4

Tuesday 26 February 2008 | Post a comment

Well personally, I think that Bungie doesn't have a chance to take Call of Duty's spot as numero uno on the ladder. Call of Duty 4 has a solid fan-base and has a long line of games which I think will keep it anchored in first place and there's no way I think Bungie could overtake them.

Halo 3 hasn't been top of the pops on Major Nelson's Xbox Live activity charts for a little while now, but Bungie plans to fight back.

"We have a lot of awesome new content coming up. We're not walking away from Halo 3," Bungie's community lead Brian Jarrard told Eurogamer last week at GDC.

"We have a group of people at the studio that are just focused on keeping the game going strong for the foreseeable future, so I think we'll continue to evolve and I expect there to be a back-and-forth [between us and COD4] for a while."

Call Of Duty 4 New Interview

Saturday 16 February 2008 | Post a comment

IGN has posted a new exclusive interview with Infinity Ward's community manager, Robert Bowling. The interview discusses everything Call Of Duty 4, including the development process and what is next for the franchise.
"IGN: How does downloadable content development work? Are the upcoming maps something that was in development at the time IW was working on COD4 and that they were maybe just held back or are they brand new creations?

Bowling: It depends. These specific maps we are working on now are 95% brand new maps that we started working on after the game shipped. There are a few we are working on that were maps we originally wanted in the shipped game, but didn't get finished in time. I hope our community doesn't feel we held anything back, because we put anything we thought was up to standard in the game. There's a few that are [being worked on] that people will see and say, "Oh, this map is straight from the single-player, why didn't they just put this in the original game?""

XBOX 360 Patch On The Way

Wednesday 13 February 2008 | Post a comment

For those of you Xbox 360 players who have been waiting for the latest Call Of Duty 4 patch, it's on its way. Infinity Ward has confirmed that it has moved out of the testing stage and the only thing holding up its release is Microsoft certifying it. You can check out a list of new features below, and we will be sure to let you know once it has been released on LIVE.
"New Kill Cams
We’ve added new Kill Cams for everything. So now those “WTF!” grenades that seemingly come from no where, you can see that a guy threw it over the house, it hit a tree branch, bounced off a rock, into a tiny window, where you happened to be pointing out of, and say…… whoa. Follow behind RPGs and M203’s kill cams, claymores, Airstrikes where you can follow the bomb from the plane until it hits you.

Host Migration
Now you won’t have to be dropped back by yourself when a host leaves. Instead, everyone will stay together, a new host will be assigned, and the game will auto-start back up. Keeping everyone together, no more re-inviting, re-joining games because some host leaves. This has been a tall order and something that we’ve put a lot of work into which has allowed us to really optimize online play all around not just specifically with Host migration.

Improved Sniper / ACOG Accuracy
Sniper and ACOG scopes have been tweaked and are really improved. I use to not snipe at all (mainly because I’m a horrible sniper), but now it’s so much more fluid and natural, while still having the same difficulty to use, it has no more “WTF I know I hit that guy!” moments.

Upgraded Spectator Cam
Now when you’re in spectator mode you can follow them in 3rd person, switch to their first person view, or rotate the camera in a full 360 degrees around whoever you’re watching.

Quick Mute Option
Users will now be able to quick mute players on the fly by pulling up the scoreboard in-game or via the lobby by simply going to their name and hitting the mute assigned button. As quickly as calling in and designating an airstike. So no longer getting killed while trying to make your way through the Xbox blades for the mute option so you can shut up the guy who always seems to find it funny to sing into his mic or cover up for his lack of skill by telling you how to play Domination his way."

Infinity Ward Wants Your Creations!

Monday 28 January 2008 | Post a comment

Fresh off the heels of the Mod Tools release, Infinity Ward wants to see what you have created. In their most recent blog post, they have announced they are looking for the "Best of The Best" in third party content, meaning your work. For more information and share your progress, be sure to visit the Infinity Ward Forums. Oh and don't forget to submit your work to our site as well.
"In the coming weeks we're going to be kicking off a search for the 'best of the best' of custom community made multiplayer maps for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Now I can't go dishing out all the details on the WHYs just yet, but just know that we're looking for the best maps you can make, and we'll be looking for them by March 31st.

No need to send them to me yet, just download the tools and start working on your vision of the perfect multiplayer map for Call of Duty 4, and I'll have more details for you in the near future. However, if once you get started you want to show off some the WIP screenshots of your map as you develop it, some users have started a thread in the official Infinity Ward forums just for that, so head over there and share your progress (Forum: WIP - Custom COD4 Maps) as you await for more info.

One more thing, design your custom maps around your platform of choice, so just because you're mapping on the PC doesn't mean your maps have to be designed for Mouse and Keyboard, if you have a cool design you think would work great on the Xbox 360 or PS3 then make it happen, the possibilities are endless on where it could end up. "

Freedom's Last Call Mod Announced

Friday 11 January 2008 | Post a comment

Thought the Call Of Duty 4 storyline died along with all its characters? Well guess again. A group of modders have gotten together to begin developing the next chapter in the tale, an expansion mod to the game called Call Of Duty 4: Freedom's Last Call. The new mod will feature a brand new storyline and will take the fight back to our home land: in the streets of New York. You can read the full release notes below, and check out the Official Announcement if you are interested in getting involved as well.
"At the end of CoD4... Griggs is dead, Gaz is dead, Price is allegedly dead.
All Four Horsemen are dead... but... there is secretly one more powerful bad ass above those four.

[Loading video]
News caster background voice about the recent events in Russia. Camera changes from tv to table, Four Horsemen photos with Terminated written above them lay about. Hand pounds on the table. Breathing heavily. "Time For Plan X... exterminate the USA. Begin with New York..."

From here, the player plays Cpt (promoted and reinstated in USA now) Soap as a British 22nd Special Air Service Regiment operative Captain in central New York. Players will fight in central New York (in the streets and train tunnels) protecting citizens as they evacuate the city.

And as USMC 1st Force Recon operative Private Ryan Jackson (brother of the deceased Sgt. Paul Jackson in CoD4). Players will fight on Liberty Island defending against the invading Russian nationalists. "

COD4 Wins...

Wednesday 26 December 2007 | Post a comment

After a close-fought battle with Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed, Activision has claimed victory on the British all-format sales chart with Call of Duty 4 taking first place.

According to research group Chart-Track, the game is Activision's first UK Christmas all-format number one. Call of Duty 4's recent 53 percent rise in sales helped propel it to the top of the charts, pushing it almost 35,000 units ahead of Assassin's Creed, which slips to number two.

While Activision sees a holiday triumph, Electronic Arts, which, according to Chart-Track, has taken the Christmas all-format number one every year since Take-Two's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City took the spot in 2002, must settle for the third, fourth and fifth spots with The Simpsons Game, FIFA '08, and Need for Speed: ProStreet respectively.

Both of Nintendo's Brain Training titles remain in the all-format Top 10, though the original takes a slide two places to eighth place. The sequel, however, climbs three places to number five. Outside of the top five, sales are in a neck-in-neck race, with only 2,000 units separating number five from number eight.

Thanks to a surge in Wii Play sales, a 148 percent boost concurrent with a stellar week for Wii hardware, that title climbs from number 17 to number 10, putting Nintendo on par with EA - as each have three titles in the top 10.

THQ's WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008 gains 36 percent in sales but remains at number seven, while last week's number one, Sega's Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games for Wii takes a tumble to number nine, making it the only top 10 title to take a week-on-week dip.

COD4 Takes Top Prize

Tuesday 18 December 2007 | Post a comment

New setting, same result: to the surprise of exactly no one here at GameSpy HQ, Infinity Ward's latest shooter is another amazing blockbuster, beating out some pretty stiff competition to take our honors as the best PC game of 2007.
As the name implies, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare leaves the familiar locale of WWII behind in favor of a more recent setting. Beginning in a fictional Middle East, where a Russian ultranationalist is set on kicking off WW3 and remaking the world, a gruesome assassination triggers a series of missions that ping-pong between an American Marine and a British SAS solider. The story is a step above most videogame fare, not afraid to make risky narrative choices without ever getting preachy on the state of modern affairs.

The other top games are listed below:

PC Top 10 Games of the Year
1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
2. The Orange Box
3. BioShock
4. Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar
5. World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade
6. The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar
7. World in Conflict
8. Crysis
9. Sam & Max: Season 1
10. The Witcher

COD4 Patch coming soon

Saturday 15 December 2007 | Post a comment

Call of Duty 4 Huge patch and update coming to you soon!
(Source: Joystiq)

It seems that more spots on our Friends list are devoted to people playing Call of Duty 4 than anything else, lately. Despite the e-success, the team at Infinity Ward is still tweaking the experience, evidenced by a bevy of changes that will be coming to the online portion of the game sometime this month.

The changes are split between two groups: playlist and patch changes. The playlist changes are numerous, and really help to balance and perfect the online experience. Maps are being added to rotations, new playlist variations are being introduced, and some rules are being changed. As for the patch, there's an awful lot of network optimization, the addition of host migration (your party doesn't get booted if the host takes off) and, perhaps most importantly of all, Kill Cam view has been added to everything: claymores, RPGs, grenades, even fracking Air Strike Bombs ("follows bomb from plane to target" ... oh yes).

The only thing we don't like about this updates? There's no ETA outside of the "month of December."

More Call Of Duty 5 Rumors

Monday 10 December 2007 | Comments [ 1 ]

Over the past several days, the internet has been flooded with rumors as to what we can expect from Call of Duty 5. While have turned out to be junk, Kotaku Gaming is now reporting that Call Of Duty 5 will be returning to the World War II theatre and now will be taking place in the Pacific. The report is believed to have come from a source very close to Treyarch. You can get a piece of the report here, and as always we will keep you posted as more information on this rumor, and all of the others swirling about Call of Duty 5, becomes available.
"Someone who is more than close enough to know such things has tipped us off over the weekend that, yes, Treyarch are indeed hard at work on Call of Duty 5. And that, yes, the series is heading back to World War II. That's the stuff we'd heard already. What we didn't know is that, according to this tipster, the game's set in the under-utilized Pacific theater, something only one major WWII shooter - the awful Medal of Honour: Pacific Assault - has tried before. While (if true) the move back to well-worn WWII is mostly disappointing, if this game can branch out and explore some of the less "popular" aspects of the conflict (China, Burma, New Guinea), it might not be so bad."

Patch 1.3 Coming Soon

Friday 30 November 2007 | Post a comment

Get ready, patch 1.3 for Call Of Duty 4 is on the way. Yesterday, FourZeroTwo posted some details in the official Charlie Oscar Delta forums outlining some changes that version 1.3 will feature, and assuring us that the new update is well on its way. One key update will be the hit points for the ACOG scope and Sniper Rifles, something that the community had been very outspoken about getting fixed. Here is the official post below, and we will keep you updated on new information about the new patch.
"Hey Everyone --

Wanted to give you a heads up that we've added even more to the upcoming patch / update thanks solely to ALL of your feedback on the Sniper Rifle, and ACOG Scope.

We have fixed the bullet registration "Accuracy" of the Sniper Rifles and ACOG Scope thanks to your feedback, so you will now have improved hit detection when using those weapons / attachment.

Again, thanks to everyone who sent in emails, posted on the forums, made videos, or let us know in any other way about this. It's fixed now and will be in the upcoming patch for 1.3 Patch for PC along with a few other updates / fixes. Full patch notes will be posted of course, once we have them finished."

COD4 Linux Binaries

Monday 19 November 2007 | Post a comment

The team over at FPS Admins have announced that they are planning to release the Linux binaries for Call Of Duty 4. While no release date was mentioned, you can expect to see them available quite soon.
"Porting is an inexact science.

Anyone that's watched one of those house-flipping shows on HGTV can tell you that if you ask someone to build you a building can say "it will take X time" but if you ask them to rework an existing structure...some times you find termites, or asbestos, etc, and the original time estimate becomes something between overly-optimistic and pure fantasy.

So it goes.

We have the server running on Linux now. It will be released soon (a few days, at most, I hope). Just need to get the greenlight to put it out there and we're good to go."
