COD4 Patch coming soon

Saturday 15 December 2007 | Post a comment

Call of Duty 4 Huge patch and update coming to you soon!
(Source: Joystiq)

It seems that more spots on our Friends list are devoted to people playing Call of Duty 4 than anything else, lately. Despite the e-success, the team at Infinity Ward is still tweaking the experience, evidenced by a bevy of changes that will be coming to the online portion of the game sometime this month.

The changes are split between two groups: playlist and patch changes. The playlist changes are numerous, and really help to balance and perfect the online experience. Maps are being added to rotations, new playlist variations are being introduced, and some rules are being changed. As for the patch, there's an awful lot of network optimization, the addition of host migration (your party doesn't get booted if the host takes off) and, perhaps most importantly of all, Kill Cam view has been added to everything: claymores, RPGs, grenades, even fracking Air Strike Bombs ("follows bomb from plane to target" ... oh yes).

The only thing we don't like about this updates? There's no ETA outside of the "month of December."

More Call Of Duty 5 Rumors

Monday 10 December 2007 | Comments [ 1 ]

Over the past several days, the internet has been flooded with rumors as to what we can expect from Call of Duty 5. While have turned out to be junk, Kotaku Gaming is now reporting that Call Of Duty 5 will be returning to the World War II theatre and now will be taking place in the Pacific. The report is believed to have come from a source very close to Treyarch. You can get a piece of the report here, and as always we will keep you posted as more information on this rumor, and all of the others swirling about Call of Duty 5, becomes available.
"Someone who is more than close enough to know such things has tipped us off over the weekend that, yes, Treyarch are indeed hard at work on Call of Duty 5. And that, yes, the series is heading back to World War II. That's the stuff we'd heard already. What we didn't know is that, according to this tipster, the game's set in the under-utilized Pacific theater, something only one major WWII shooter - the awful Medal of Honour: Pacific Assault - has tried before. While (if true) the move back to well-worn WWII is mostly disappointing, if this game can branch out and explore some of the less "popular" aspects of the conflict (China, Burma, New Guinea), it might not be so bad."

Activision has officially released patch version 1.3 for Call Of Duty 4. The patch makes several important fixes to the games, many of which were suggested by the community.
"This is the release of the v1.3 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare™ patch by Infinity Ward.

This patch addresses the issue reported by community member Uzi Kidding which now catches some files bypassing the pure client test. In addition this update will set properties so that Anti-lag is always enabled upon map loads, an optimization for Sniper Rifle accuracty at certain distances, as well a fix so text chat between rounds of multiplayer will no longer cut out at the end. The 1.3 patch will also include all previous fixes from previous patches."

Get ready, patch 1.3 for Call Of Duty 4 is on the way. Yesterday, FourZeroTwo posted some details in the official Charlie Oscar Delta forums outlining some changes that version 1.3 will feature, and assuring us that the new update is well on its way. One key update will be the hit points for the ACOG scope and Sniper Rifles, something that the community had been very outspoken about getting fixed. Here is the official post below, and we will keep you updated on new information about the new patch.
"Hey Everyone --

Wanted to give you a heads up that we've added even more to the upcoming patch / update thanks solely to ALL of your feedback on the Sniper Rifle, and ACOG Scope.

We have fixed the bullet registration "Accuracy" of the Sniper Rifles and ACOG Scope thanks to your feedback, so you will now have improved hit detection when using those weapons / attachment.

Again, thanks to everyone who sent in emails, posted on the forums, made videos, or let us know in any other way about this. It's fixed now and will be in the upcoming patch for 1.3 Patch for PC along with a few other updates / fixes. Full patch notes will be posted of course, once we have them finished."

COD4 Linux Binaries

Monday 19 November 2007 | Post a comment

The team over at FPS Admins have announced that they are planning to release the Linux binaries for Call Of Duty 4. While no release date was mentioned, you can expect to see them available quite soon.
"Porting is an inexact science.

Anyone that's watched one of those house-flipping shows on HGTV can tell you that if you ask someone to build you a building can say "it will take X time" but if you ask them to rework an existing structure...some times you find termites, or asbestos, etc, and the original time estimate becomes something between overly-optimistic and pure fantasy.

So it goes.

We have the server running on Linux now. It will be released soon (a few days, at most, I hope). Just need to get the greenlight to put it out there and we're good to go."
