New setting, same result: to the surprise of exactly no one here at GameSpy HQ, Infinity Ward's latest shooter is another amazing blockbuster, beating out some pretty stiff competition to take our honors as the best PC game of 2007. As the name implies, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare leaves the familiar locale of WWII behind in favor of a more recent setting. Beginning in a fictional Middle East, where a Russian ultranationalist is set on kicking off WW3 and remaking the world, a gruesome assassination triggers a series of missions that ping-pong between an American Marine and a British SAS solider. The story is a step above most videogame fare, not afraid to make risky narrative choices without ever getting preachy on the state of modern affairs. The other top games are listed below: PC Top 10 Games of the Year 1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2. The Orange Box 3. BioShock 4. Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar 5. World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade 6. The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar 7. World in Conflict 8. Crysis 9. Sam & Max: Season 1 10. The Witcher Source: GameSpy.com
Call of Duty 4 Huge patch and update coming to you soon!(Source: Joystiq) It seems that more spots on our Friends list are devoted to people playing Call of Duty 4 than anything else, lately. Despite the e-success, the team at Infinity Ward is still tweaking the experience, evidenced by a bevy of changes that will be coming to the online portion of the game sometime this month. The changes are split between two groups: playlist and patch changes. The playlist changes are numerous, and really help to balance and perfect the online experience. Maps are being added to rotations, new playlist variations are being introduced, and some rules are being changed. As for the patch, there's an awful lot of network optimization, the addition of host migration (your party doesn't get booted if the host takes off) and, perhaps most importantly of all, Kill Cam view has been added to everything: claymores, RPGs, grenades, even fracking Air Strike Bombs ("follows bomb from plane to target" ... oh yes). The only thing we don't like about this updates? There's no ETA outside of the "month of December." Read more here
